Real-time Energy & Carbon Displays for Devon Visitor Centre

CLIENT

Occombe Farm

PURPOSE

To engage and educate the public about energy and carbon.

DESCRIPTION

Prototype real-time energy and carbon visualisations integrated into displays at a new Visitor Centre.

Carbon Visuals has created real-time energy and carbon visualisation for a new Visitor Centre at Occombe Farm, a working organic farm that includes an award-winning farm shop, a cafe featuring local food and drink, a nature trail, an education centre and cookery workshops.

With funding from Local Energy Assessment Fund (LEAF) a straw-bale walled teaching room has been turned into a Visitor Centre. Two screens show information on carbon, energy and Occombe’s wood-chipping facility and wood pellet boilers.

The third screen shows the mix of energy sources in real-time that power the National Grid, as well as the total carbon dioxide being emitted by the UK’s power stations in real-time.

If you have a fast processor and use Chrome as browser then Click here to see the dedicated page for this tool. If not click on the image opposite to see video of the tool in operation.

The final screen shows the real-time energy being produced by the 90Kw solar panels on the farm shed roofs, as well as the real-time carbon dioxide that is being SAVED from going to the atmosphere.

We believe that seeing carbon emissions and savings in real-time will be a powerful way to engage members of the public. This prototype display system at Occombe is a big step forward in our work to communicate energy and carbon to non-specialists.

NOTE: Because these tools are only designed to run at Occombe we have not designed them to run on all browsers.
